Heralds became awesome for many reasons. A new chariot and unique in the fact that it has no rider and actually has a half decent armour value although it is open-toppedbut what really makes me excited is the shiny gun on the model itself.
The new codex has done away with the previous armoury for the Daemons, which allowed one to tool up certain units with upgrades from a list for a certain points for each.
You can cast it into melee while you tie them up with Plaguebearers and Horrors but keep in mind that you have to cast it on the next enemy unit. In short, there are a lot of changes from his book and the last, so much that the codez army feels and plays completely different from what it once was.
Choose warptime as your power. The vodex behind each of them are cool and certainly worth a look, but I feel they are mostly either too situational or a canny opponent will simply negate it before it has a chance to prove its worth.
The army bonus for mono god detachments often impact list building more than before, too. Take 30 plaguebearers with a scrivener and advance over the table and bubble wrap your 3 or more daemon princes so that your enemy has to waste his precious las cannons on your cheap plaguebearers and then jump out of hiding with 12″ movement and kill his elite stuff. There is no problem if codx want to exchange both weapons for their basic alternative, such as an etherblade and a lash of slannesh if you have dwemonic a lesser and greater reward.
Sadly, no warptime or Prescience. The following HQ selections are Heralds and differ from the Greater Daemons and Princes because up to four Heralds may be taken in a single HQ slot in a detachment, meaning you could have lots of them if you wanted to.
The model is nice, but with its rules I am not so sure about fielding it. However, it can daeonic terrifyingly devastating on days when it works in your favor – the two generating up to 6 more wounds on an enemy unit just for hitting it! Chaos Daemons have a nifty bonus in that they all start coodex their respective God’s Raemonic power.
